K-Wire-Based External Fixator for Management of Salter-Harris Type-II Distal Femur Physeal Injury

چکیده
We present a case of 16-year-old male with Salter-Harris type II physeal slip the distal femur managed closed reduction and K wire clamp-based external fixator. Knee range motion exercises were initiated after one week. The union was observed at 10 weeks, implant removal done on an outpatient basis. At year follow-up, patient had good clinical radiological outcomes. K-wire-based fixator frame is effective fixation method for slips in older children, providing favorable functional

Salter Harris Fractures of the Distal Femur
Salter Harris–type injuries of the distal femur should be treated as a dislocation of the knee and therefore as a medical emergency. Senior medical staff should be involved early, ankle–brachial index ratio should be measured in all patients and the clinician should have a high index of suspicion for a vascular injury. Ideally reduction, stabilization, and vascular repair, if necessary, should ...
متن کاملWhat is the best treatment for displaced Salter–Harris II physeal fractures of the distal tibia?
Background and purpose - The optimal treatment of displaced Salter-Harris (SH) II fractures of the distal tibia is controversial. We compared the outcomes of operative and nonoperative treatment of SH II distal tibial fractures with residual gap of >3 mm. Factors that may be associated with the incidence of premature physeal closure (PPC) were analyzed. Patients and methods - We retrospectively...
متن کاملSalter-Harris I and II fractures of the distal tibia: does mechanism of injury relate to premature physeal closure?
INTRODUCTION The distal tibial physis is the second most commonly injured physis in long bones. Recent reports demonstrate a high rate of premature physeal closure (PPC) in Salter-Harris (SH) type I or II fractures of the distal tibia. METHODS At our institution, 137 distal tibial SH type I or II fractures were treated from 1994 to 2002. Reviews were performed on all patients and 91 fractures...
متن کاملClassification of Distal Radius Physeal Fractures Not Included in the Salter-Harris System
INTRODUCTION The most commonly used classification for pediatric physeal fractures has been proposed by Salter and Harris. Among the most suitable classification schemes are those proposed by Ogden and Peterson who added several new types of injuries. The purpose of this study was to examine the value of both schemes to classify all different types of physeal injuries of the distal radius that ...
متن کاملProximal Tibial Epiphysis Injury (Flexion Type, Salter–Harris Type 1)
INTRODUCTION Fractures of the proximal tibial epiphysis rare. It has been estimated that fractures of the upper tibial epiphysis account for 0.5-3.1% of all epiphyseal injuries. Who had no neurovascular deficit, with fixed extension deformity at the left knee was treated early with closed reduction techniques. CASE REPORT We present a case of a 16-year-old boy who while playing cricket on the...
